Arrowhead, Railing Finial or something else?

By Mike Turner

Last October we had our annual club dig in West Norfolk. Some of you might remember this little pointy thing appearing in the finds cabinet. I had dug it up in the morning, had no idea what it was, and suggestions ranged from medieval arrowhead to the top off of Victorian railings. It seemed too flimsy to be either but the PAS solved it. It is a late bronze age razor – to be more precise – a Piggot’s (1946) type 1 – apparently. I assume it is for scraping animal skins rather than an early Gillette, but perhaps we’ll never know! I have put it on UKDFD and it is recorded with PAS.
